Cockspur VSOR is a rum produced by WIRD (West Indies Rum Distillery) in Barbados.
This Very Special Old Rum is, as its name suggests, made with the oldest and best rums from the distillery.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose opens with lightly roasted and caramelized nuts, which part at times to let in a light and floral breath. The American oak barrel is rather hard and toasted. The coconut, vanilla and soft wood retain a fairly rigid hold and a certain seriousness for the moment.
With aeration, the tobacco, coconut and vanilla harmonize and gain a little roundness, but the whole holds together and maintains a beautiful hold. Roasting the oak keeps the rows tight, without completely obscuring its seductive and delicious notes.
The palate is very fluid, with a light texture where the relief of the toasted wood is clearly expressed. Roasting is the key word, the coffee and the burnt notes even acquire an impression of minerality coming from the charcoal. The typical notes of Barbados are in the background, tobacco and vanilla are taken in this toasty atmosphere.
The finish is a little spicy, and we return to a fairly light and tingling rum.
