Cockspur

Cockspur is a distillery founded by Danish shipbroker Valdemar Hanschell in 1884 on the Caribbean island of Barbados. At the time, Barbados was home to one of the largest ports in the Caribbean. Cockspur soon became the rum brand of the small island nation.

Although Valdemar Hanschell was the driving force behind Cockspur, he left the production to the Stade brothers, for whom Caribbean rum must be highly aromatic and free of impurities. The Stade brothers improved the production process by mastering the complexities of fermentation. To this end, they introduced Barbados' first continuous column.

This tradition has stood the test of time, and is the reason for the company's international renown. Cockspur rums express both the warmth of the West Indian sun and the fresh breeze of the ocean. Read less
