Compagnie des Indes Boulet de canon nº6 46°: Description and customer reviews

This 6th limited edition of the Compagnie des Indes boulet de canon smoky notes rum range was released in July 2018. This time it's a blend of aged rums from Panama and Nicaragua that, at the end of the journey, spent 6 months in peated whisky barrels.

Bottling was carried out without cold filtration.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, there's no ultra-peaty or smoky futility, but a beautifully fruity rum that shimmers happily in the glass. Vegetal enters the scene, and then the first surprise: it's like a Mezcal. This characteristic smokiness is very well integrated into the rum. Unlike the very smoky notes coming from the cask, which sometimes detract from the balance, we feel that this smokiness is intimately linked to the rum, as if it had been elaborated in this way, hence the impression of kinship with the agave spirit. As the more animalic notes emerge, we lean more towards whisky, and then sink our teeth into the sticky resin.

The rest lets the smokiness settle in without sharing, and each new contact with the nose sends us back to Mexico and Mezcal. When the rum is woken up by passing it around the rim of the glass, we have access to its softly fruity, spicy heart. This relatively light rum lets the cask express itself without confrontation, and the whisky has the politeness not to crush everything, instead composing on this delicate score.

The entry into the mouth is extremely smooth, in fact quite surprising. The sensation is very fluid and the aromas are delicate, a little floral and fruity. Then the smoke begins to descend from the mountain. The surrounding vegetation gradually takes on smoky aromas (hello Mezcal), then the plume becomes more and more imposing, you get the impression that you're going to be completely submerged, and then finally you feel pretty good about it! The woodiness merges with the smoke, which leaves little room for the rest, but is so delightful. We move on to the barbecue to find our herbs de Provence definitively grilled and perfumed with meat juices.

The finish is interminable, a little honeyed and above all smoky of course, much more than peaty in the end.

"Another successful experiment for Compagnie des Indes, who are having fun and delighting us with this series, while progressing with each edition..."

In addition to our tasting notes, here's what Florent Beuchet, the rum's creator, has to say about it: on the nose, delicious exotic and fruity aromas give way to a spicy touch (pepper, curry) to finish on subtle smoky notes; on the palate, unctuous with hazelnut and praline aromas, a vegetal and fleshy character becomes clear on the mid-palate; finish delicately roasted and smoky.

If you like it, we recommend :

  • A rum with a strong Islay whisky cask character...
  • A blend of rums from Panama and Nicaragua, infused with smoked paprika.
  • An Islay finish, but this time on an agricultural rum...
