Nico's tasting notes
The nose opens with a gourmet taste of vanilla and coconut caramel. In this tropical nougatine, we also find a few fat, white almonds, very lightly flamed and covered in salted butter caramel.
On aeration, you're surprised by the concentration of this rum. Initially woody, with hints of nuts and sweet spices, it moves deeper and deeper into fermented molasses, with leather, meat juices and licorice. There's a touch of powerful aromatics, notably roasted rosemary.
The palate is much smoother than one might expect, given the degree. It's the greediness that strikes first, with its fullness, warmth and generosity. The full-bodied nuts are coated in caramel, and seem to have been reheated for the occasion. They scatter sweet notes of spice, vanilla, clove and pepper.
The finish is caramelized and slightly buttery.
"A generous rum, remarkably gourmet and delightfully simple..."
