Dzama Vieux rhum 5 ans cognac finish is a rum from Madagascar. It spent part of its ageing period in a barrel that had previously contained cognac. The result is a complex, fine rum.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose opens with a rather light rum, with ethereal notes. A soft, powdery vanilla candy falls gently, dampening these initial aromas. It then releases notes of coffee, licorice and caramel. Resting confirms this mellow impression, with toast, nougat, blanched almonds, and more and more vanilla.
The palate is sweet and caramelized, with a hint of saltiness. The caramelization is strong, with the wood still crackling and releasing great waves of vanilla sugar. The blanched almonds are still there, embedded in a soft, white nougat.
The finish is enhanced by a few sweet spices that quickly melt on the tongue.
"Sweetness and roasting are the watchwords of this Madagascan rum... "
