Dzama Vieux rhum 5 ans cognac finish is a rum from Madagascar. It has spent part of its ageing time in a cask that previously contained cognac. The result is a complex and fine rum.
Nico's tasting note
The nose opens with a rather light rum, with ethereal notes. A soft, powdery vanilla candy falls gently and dampens these initial aromas. It then releases notes of coffee, liquorice and caramel. Resting confirms this mellow impression, with toast, nougat, blanched almonds, and more and more vanilla.
The palate is sweet and caramelised, with a hint of saltiness. The caramelisation is strong, the wood still crackles and delivers large waves of vanilla sugar. The blanched almonds are still there, they are inserted in a white and soft nougat.
The finish is enhanced by some sweet spices that melt quickly on the tongue.
"Sweetness and roasting are the key words of this Malagasy rum... "
