El Dorado Port Mourant Uitvlugt 2010 Orange 51° : Description and customer reviews

El Dorado Port Mourant Uitvlugt 2010 Orange is a molasses rum from Guyana. It was distilled at Diamond, on the banks of the Demerara River, the country's only remaining distillery. This distillery has the particularity of having brought together all the stills from Guyana's former plantations, which have now disappeared. These include the famous Port Mourant wooden pot-still, and the 4-column Uitvlugt still.

These two "marks" (PM and ICBU) were blended before ageing, hence the term "blended in the barrel". Distillation took place in 2010, and the rum was bottled brut de fût in 2019.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is dominated by dark, roasted and somewhat ethereal hues. It takes a few moments for the cloud of smoke to dissipate, revealing lovely roasted nuts with coconut accents.

With aeration, the rum confirms its roasted tendency, with notes of toast, strong coffee, muscovado and licorice stick.

The palate is soft, with a very fluid texture on the attack. This is followed by a more concentrated, roasted and astringent wave of roundly coated nuts, coffee and toasted white wood. The vanilla that emerges from this roasting shows a sweeter side that arrives with time.

The finish is round and gently spicy. The oak is tender, and its fiber flows like syrup.

"A Demerara that balances its very roasted aromas with a very rounded, even oily side..."

If you like it, we recommend :

  • A Demerara that's both roasted and gourmet...
  • Still Port Mourant at the heart of the blend, with a higher proportion of column rum...
