El Dorado Versailles 2009 40° : Description and customer reviews

Versailles 2009 is an El Dorado brand rum produced in Guyana by the Diamond distillery. Demerara Distillers Limited owns the distillery and no fewer than 9 stills, some of which have survived several decades.

Here, El Dorado features a single still from this distillery. This is a "single still" rum, distilled with the wooden pot still known as "Versailles". This alembic is similar to the "Port Mourant", the only difference being that it consists of a single vat. The still dates back to the early 1800s, when it was located on a small sugar estate on the west bank of the Demerara River, attached to the town of Versailles. It belonged to the French L'Amirault family.

This distillation unit was transferred to the Enmore, then Uitvlugt and finally Diamond distilleries in 2000. It features a cylindrical tank made of Greenheart wood and a copper gooseneck. It is also equipped with a rectification column.

This bottling is a 12-year-old molasses rum distilled in 2009. It was aged in ex-bourbon American oak barrels.
