Pusser's Blue Label is a faithful reproduction of the British Royal Navy's Admiralty Rum, originally produced between 1655 and 1970.
This blend has only been available to the general public since 1979, when the brand was created. It is a blend of rums from former British possessions: Guyana (the Demerara region), Trinidad and the British Virgin Islands.
As with the brand's other rums, no additives or colorants are added prior to packaging.
The aromatic richness of Pusser's Blue Label makes it an ideal tasting rum or cocktail ingredient.
Nico's tasting notes
In brief: complex - dry - strong spices - fruit - roasting - smoke - tar
On the nose, this is a rum typical of the English tradition. Spicy, full-bodied and fruity, it has all the qualities that Navy sailors sought. Here, the 40% gives it a roundness and creaminess that make it quite approachable. The ripe fruit is a little coppery and powdery, the fat almond mingles with the cherry pit, the spices are caught in a licorice-like molasses.
Aeration accentuates the full-bodied, coppery character. The whisky borders on the exotic, even touching on smoke and iodine. The woodiness contains nuggets of nuts, such as the small walnut typical of Demerara rums, as well as the greediest of resinous vegetal notes.
On the palate, the rum is balanced and seductive. It is complex and has a distinctive profile, true to Navy rums. The spirit of the English style is well represented: a full-bodied rum, not necessarily refined but tasty and lively. Boredom is certainly avoided with the ripe exotic fruits bathed in rubbery smoke, or with the tarry-edged nuts.
The finish is both mineral and coppery, then fades to a pretty, lightly roasted walnut.
"A true Navy, with less alcohol, perfect for trying out the style..."
Paul Martinot
Excellent rum, very typical and fragrant, one of the last Navy Rum to be distilled in a wooden still.

On the nose, this Pusser's Rum is classic from English Guiana. We sense a beautiful, very present woody note. A powerful nose for a 40° rum. Very molasses, we smell cane sugar in a slightly burnt form.
Quite dry on the palate. The Demerara-type cane sugar can be felt on the palate. Aromas of roasting (light coffee) are present. The spices come through, giving the rum length. However, the aromatic intensity is fairly average.
The finish is medium on spices and cane sugar. This sweetness dries out the mouth and creates a slightly unpleasant sensation.
For 30 euros, you get a very interesting rum. Well-balanced on the palate, with a powerful nose. A few shortcomings (average length and aromatic power) but negligible for this price range.
