Eminente Reserva 7 ans is a Cuban rum inspired by the aguardientes of the 19th century. It is produced by Cuba Ron, in partnership with the LVMH group. It has the particularity of containing 70% aguardientes, particularly aromatic molasses brandies. In comparison, most Cuban rums contain only 10%.
Aged for 7 years in old whisky casks, under the supervision of Cuban maestro roneros and French expert Alexandre Vingtier.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose opens with a light rum, both fruity and floral, with fine woody notes. The oak provides a hint of roasting, delivering aromas of roasted, caramelized nuts. Mild spices like vanilla are enhanced by other fine spices, as in a cigar box.
Aeration takes us further into the wood fiber, with a very elegant American oak barrel. The vanilla and coconut are just right, delicately wrapped in a case of blond tobacco. The fruit has matured considerably, and is now reminiscent of mirabelle plums oozing with sugar, or even a sweet white wine.
The palate is balanced from the outset, between toasty oak and marshmallow-like soft fruit. The palate is quite dry, a far cry from the sweet Latin tradition. Pepper and wood join forces on the tongue mid-palate, stinging it as a clove might. This liveliness gives way to a softer, vanilla woodiness.
The finish is roasted and delicious, with a hint of mocha.
"This is a full-bodied Cuban rum, with light fruit and a well-worked woodiness..."
