Ferroni La Dame Jeanne 9 Jamaïque is a white rum in the purest Jamaican tradition. Its full-bodied, fruity, otherworldly aromas come from a unique fermentation process, and distillation in a double-twisted Caribbean pot-still. This molasses rum is extremely aromatic, but also very round, thanks to the rest Guillaume Ferroni has given it. The Château des Creissauds in Aubagne is where he ages his spirits, and not just in casks. Dame Jeanne is an excellent way to let a rum blossom and mature without the contact of wood.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, the rum is both fresh and funky. It explodes with a basket of exotic and orchard fruits, the former adding color, the latter freshness. All this is underpinned by a fine kernel note, which adds a mellow, almost pastry-like base.
Aeration reveals the small touches of solvent so typical of the style. We're almost reminded of nail polish remover, and then we discover a few zests of lime or combava that bring us back to something fruity, fresh and intense.
The palate is surprisingly round and mild, with a fatty texture that coats the entire palate. The wild side is not really emphasized, but the funky character of the rum is very much present. After a hint of copper, ripe banana and pineapple aromas follow, followed by cherry pits to tighten the taste buds.
The finish is gourmand, with tender almond paste and a hint of olive brine.
