The Flag Series range by La Maison & Velier brings together a selection of exclusive barrels that are emblematic of their origins. Bottling is done without reduction, without coloring and without filtration.
Here, the rum comes from the Mhoba distillery, located in eastern South Africa. It is produced by distilling pure cane juice from the local nkomazi variety. This variety is untreated, unburned, grown without fertilizers or pesticides and harvested by hand all year round. The fermentation of the fresh cane juice lasts between 7 and 8 days and is done with selected yeasts. This step is followed by a natural fermentation that can last up to 21 days. The distillation is done in a pot still in batches.
This exclusive expression benefited from 2 years of aging in a South African wine barrel. This aging was completed with 2 years of refinement in a second-fill bourbon barrel.
The BO-17 barrel from the 2019 vintage produced 262 bottles.
