Gelas 9 ans Panama Full Proof is a vanilla rum distilled in Panama. It was aged for at least 9 years in American oak barrels containing bourbon. It then began its journey to the Gelas estate. ThisArmagnac producer naturally chose some of its barrels for additional maturation.
Bottled brut de fût (without reduction in alcohol content), 600 bottles were produced.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, very sweet notes mingle with aromas of advanced roasting. In fact, the rum is quite light, held together by a burnt woodiness, but it is also sweet, coated in a red fruit syrup.
Aeration continues to lull the nose with its roundness. The wood now delivers its sweet spices, mainly vanilla, but also cinnamon and a hint of nutmeg. Its toasty side now evokes caramel-coated nuts.
The palate is gently fruity, with orange peel liqueur. This is followed by a slightly more lively and intense wave, where the roasting of the wood lets us rub shoulders with a few coffee beans. Vanilla covers these catchier notes, soon to be joined by coconut and caramel.
The finish lingers on this tender vanilla delicacy, with hints of red fruit.
