Grosperrin N°24 Grande Champagne Brut de fût Emb. 01-2021 42,8° : Description and customer reviews

This Grosperrin N°24 Grande Champagne cognac comes from a former broker who died over 20 years ago. He kept for himself the finest batches of cognacs he bought in his village and the surrounding area, then sold the rest to négociants. It was this man's widow who sold these very old Grande Champagne to Jean Grosperrin.

Her husband, who was still in the business some thirty years ago, had a reputation for being tenacious. His passion was for old cognacs, which he hoarded like treasures. He would not allow his children or even his wife, a schoolteacher, to enter this sanctuary, to which he jealously guarded the key. Destroyed by illness, it was only in the final stages of his life that his son took charge of the situation, and his relatives were able to discover what had been accumulated over so many years.

In a cellar that had once been a barn, and to which thick metal doors had been added, stood around fifteen barrels and a few casks. In these barrels, each covered with black plastic sheeting to limit the costly "angels' share", were batches of very old Grande Champagne cognacs. Each barrel was inscribed with the origin of the product, the quantity purchased, the degree of alcohol, the volume and the year of harvest. But no archives! It was then that his wife was able to profit from the brandy trade.

This cognac was bottled in January 2021 by the Grosperrin house, without any special treatment or addition of any other element.
