Hee Joy VSOP Jamaica is a molasses rum in the purest English tradition. It was produced in pot-still at the Worthy Park distillery, after a long fermentation typical of the style.
This VSOP cuvée is unique in that it has been matured twice. After 4 years of tropical ageing in ex-bourbon casks, it was further matured in Chevanceaux, in the Charente region. A former Cognac barrel was used this time, for 6 months. This cuvée is signed by the brand's creator, Jean-Marc Larhantec.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is round and brioche-like, with a very mellow, fat and aromatic dried banana. The yeast mingles with blond tobacco and pine resin, giving us a beautiful brew of tenderness, enhanced by a breath of fresh fruit.
Aeration brings even more freshness, with the help of a handful of just-picked aromatics. When the rum settles again, it lingers on a soft, honeyed woodiness, comfortable as a sweet gingerbread or a piece of soft nougat.
The palate is savory and pastry-like, just as brioche-like as the nose. Blond tobacco with vanilla and honey blends perfectly with dried banana, for a lovely, round, cakey sensation.
The finish is also marked by gourmandise, with a pastry cream scented with cherry and almond.
"A very gourmand and tender brioche rum, with a good dose of dried banana..."
