HSE XO À la Française is a blend of aged rums produced in Martinique.
This blend combines the 2007 and 2013 vintages , aged in carefully selected French oak barrels by the Habitation Saint-Étienne team. This aging process highlights the character of Martinique rhum agricole while adding richness, elegance, and aromatic complexity.
Jérémie's tasting notes
On the nose: an elegant nose, dominated by a dry, patinated oakiness reminiscent of certain cognac-style eaux-de-vie. Notes of white flowers open the tasting, quickly joined by aromas of tobacco, dried fruit, prune, and apricot. With aeration, the oak softens, revealing delicately caramelized and vanilla nuances. Sweet spices, including clove, sweet pepper, and fenugreek, complete a complex and harmonious aromatic profile.
On the palate: the attack is direct, driven by a structuring oak influence with well-defined but perfectly integrated tannins. Notes of blond tobacco and a slight bitterness reminiscent of orange zest add depth to the whole. The mid-palate then reveals hints of fruit brandy, apricot, and dried fig, underpinned by the naturally peppery character of the sugarcane. The overall impression evolves towards a honeyed and luscious texture, enriched with roasted notes, gingerbread, and candied fruit, where apricot and marmalade take center stage.
The finish: long and lingering, it prolongs the delicately toasted oak and sweet spices. Candied fruit gradually returns in the background, adding a touch of indulgence that accompanies the tasting for a long time.
