Isautier Rhum Vieux 5 ans 40°: Description and customer reviews

Isautier Rhum Vieux 5 ans comes from Réunion's oldest distillery, founded in 1845. Isautier is an all-rounder: rhum agricole, traditionnel de mélasse, rhums arrangés. Isautier stands out for the quality of its aged rums, such as this 5-Year-Old. This is a blend of rhums agricoles and rhums traditionnels, aged in French oak barrels for at least 5 years.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, there's a full-bodied profile, with an "industrial" touch that evokes hot metal and something burnt, toasty. This first impression conceals an intense concentration of fruit, like quince paste coated with bitter flower aromas like geranium.

Aeration takes us to the confectionery side of things, with fruity, tangy notes reminiscent of toffee apples or candy cane. Some red fruits shine through, concentrated and glittering like metal.

The palate is smooth, with an attack that's both creamy and tart, like a cherry milk lollipop. The rum then opens up to exotic fruits like papaya and mango, before dropping onto a mattress of sweet almond.

The finish is more spicy and woody, with a rather soft, vanilla oak.

"After an initial, rather full-bodied nose, we find lovely fruit and a very tender palate..."
