Issan Batch 2015 40° : Description and customer reviews

A rum released on the French market for Rhum Fest 2015, Issan is a 100° agricole rum made with cane juice freshly pressed on the day of the cut.
The rum is reduced to 40° due to Thai legislation.

Issan was awarded a gold medal at Rhum Fest 2015, as well as a silver medal at the IWSC in Hong Kong, sharing the title with Rhum Agricole par Neisson, the famous white rum from Martinique. It's an extraordinary and promising recognition for this brand-new rum created by a passionate Frenchman and marketed today only in Thailand and France.

Laurent's tasting notes

Totally translucent.

On the nose, its profile is rich. Freshness is discreet at first, but develops in the glass. Its heavy profile is accentuated by its "oily" side, which makes it all the more interesting. Add fruity notes (dried apricots, pear and mango) and a hint of dried cane leaf.

On the palate, the attack is supple, the alcohol barely noticeable. The texture is unctuous and coats the palate well. The cane flavor is there and then!

The finish is moderately long. Aromas of fresh grass and a slight salty/iodized edge. A fine finish.

"This rum from Thailand is clearly a tasting rum. For those who find it lacking in freshness, do the test of adding a (small) zest of lime, without the pulp!"

  1. Mr BATTY Pierre-Michel

This rum is a joke. A good nose and... that's it. No flavor, nothing like an organic Niesson or a Longueteau Constellation. It's good enough to make a punch, but at 50€ a bottle, that's expensive.

  2. Pimus

This rum has a good nose and... that's it. No flavor at all, it's so light you'd think it was diluted with water. Compared to a Niesson bio or a Longueteau Constellation, there's no comparison. I'm extremely disappointed, especially for a 50€ bottle, and don't know what I'm going to do with it...

  • Another pure cane juice rum from Thailand, a little fresher and closer to the Martinique style...
  • A superb cane brandy from the island of Madeira...
