L'Encantada offers us a selection of an Armagnac Tenarèze, limestone terroir from Domaine du Pouy. For more exoticism, this 2002 vintage was aged in ex-Jamaican rum oak barrels. It's a rum from Worthy Park to be exact.
For more power, this Gascony eau-de-vie is bottled “brut de cask”, that is to say without reduction.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this Armagnac immediately offers a very candy profile, fruity, floral, full of banana and strawberry confectionery. However, we quickly find the markers of the genre, with a winey side, dried fruits and almonds.
With aeration, the wood begins to spread over the entire surface of the glass, to conquer the aromatic profile. It is largely melted, although a slight grain remains. The tannins stretch into apple and banana compote, at the crossroads between France and Jamaica.
The palate is complex and delightful from the attack, with delicate and oxidized fruits such as pear, scorched spices, dried fruits, quince paste, guava jam... We also find a vinous side, with grapes and a touch of marc, with vegetal and candied notes.
The finish is rather pastry, with dried fruits with almond paste and a hint of lychee.
“A fruity eau-de-vie with a little exotic glint in the corner of the eye, served in a delightful degree…”
