This Navigation n°1 rum, bottled by Les Frères de la Côte in 2022, is an agricultural rum distilled in Martinique at the family-owned La Favorite distillery.
The Mangin-Deville family selected this white rum from the 2021 harvest, then tapped it in February 2022 at 55%.
No fewer than 6 "BLACK SCALE" barrels made by the NAVARRE cooperage were loaded onto the now-famous "Tres Hombres" sailboat.
This rum was bottled in September 2022 after a 4-month crossing on board the boat, followed by a 3-month rest period in the Stéphanois cellar.
This bottle, produced in a limited edition of 1,600, is sold with a 5cl mignonette of 55° white rum taken from Martinique before casking.
So you can taste the rum before it crosses the Atlantic (the mignonette) and after the dynamic aging process (the bottle!).
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, the spices and wood are very elegant and exotic, like a kind of incense smoke. The fragrance is quite restrained, however, far from being heavy or heady. As for the cane, with its bright aromas, it nestles in the corner of a peppercorn.
Aeration takes us back to the roots of this rum, with fermented cane juice, sweet and sour and spicy. These spices, and pepper in particular, are exotic and varied, once again taking us by the hand to take us sailing.
On the palateIn the mouth, the flesh of the cane and its bark are beautifully set off with wood. The typical spices of La Favorite have taken advantage of the long journey to become more candied, rounder and sweeter, while losing none of their flavor. A hint of iodine can be detected between the barrel staves.
The finish is luscious and savory, with the cane juice thickening and coating the oak, its sweetness taking on a slight cola-like quality.
"An impressive maturity acquired during this crossing; a delightful experience..."

Surprising, original, good! And I'm not a fan of rum on wood!
