Les Frères de la Côte La Favorite Navigation n°2 bottled in 2022 is an amber agricultural rum from Martinique. It is the result of a collaboration between the Dormoy and Mangin-Deville families, for the fourth consecutive year.
The rum was produced at La Favorite, a family and artisanal distillery located between the towns of Fort-de-France and Lamentin. It was in 2019 that it was distilled in a copper Creole column dating from 1957. It was first put in American oak barrels for 17 months, then barreled at 53.2° in 4 ex-Madeira barrels. .
A 900-liter batch was selected to sail to the old continent aboard the Tres Hombres. Once there, the rum spent a further 8 months in casks in the Frères de la Côte urban cellar in Saint-Etienne.
In April 2022, the rum was bottled brut de fût, i.e. without any reduction in alcohol content. This2nd edition produced 1,800 copies.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, fresh, peppery cane juice melts into a syrup of vanilla, lime peel and ginger. One is inevitably reminded of a ready-made ti'punch, where the cane joins a raw sugar with gently spicy nuances.
With aeration, the rum gains in amplitude, the cane unfolds floral, fruity and sunny notes, and the sweet spices fill the whole with their almost pastry-like character.
The palate is as natural as the nose suggested, with a lovely attack of peppery cane juice whose grain you can feel. The cane fiber is bursting with sweet juice, and you can enjoy its texture in the mid-palate as if you had a freshly cut piece.
The finish is tasty and inhabited by sweet spices, with a very slightly smoky gray pepper that regularly revives the greediness.
