Longueteau Opera Batch 1 46.4° : Description and customer reviews

Longueteau Opéra is the latest addition to the Harmonie range from the family distillery in Guadeloupe. This range is the result of a blend of several vintages selected by the cellar master to create a perfect harmony. Like an orchestra conductor, he blends the aromatic palettes of the different rums to create the most beautiful of sonorities.

This cuvée is a blend of very old agricultural rums over 8 years old, aged in 300-liter ex-cognac casks.
The rums aged are 50° and 55° white agricultural rums (65% red cane, 35% blue cane) that have been rested and reduced in stainless steel tanks for 8 months.

The rum was bottled without cold filtering or the addition of spring water, in other words brut de fût, in 1,400 numbered copies in a magnificent bottle.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose opens with a woody bouquet bursting with sweet spices that range from pastry to cooking to perfumery. We find cinnamon, tonka bean and pepper, as well as curry, aniseed and even some ginger and galanga root.

With aeration, we come to a young, fresh wood, with a fatty fiber full of nutty milk. Like a sugarcane nougat, it is soft, honeyed, gently caramelized and vanilla-flavored.

On the palate, the woodiness is drier, more intense, more concentrated and savory. Its seriousness joins that of the cane and its bark, for a straighter, spicier profile. In the mid-palate, nuts begin to unfold and relax the whole. They carry hints of spice, herbs and honey, creating a complex, elegant harmony.

The finish takes us back to cane and pepper, with butterscotch reminding us of the soft wood of the early days.

"An opera in several acts, with color, sweetness, tension and harmony..."

An interesting taste. I really thought it was a cognac when I first tasted it.

If you like it, we recommend :

  • A fine agricultural rum that has taken the best of the cask in which it has aged...
  • Another Guadeloupe rum aged in ex-cognac barrels...
