Longueteau Confrérie du Rhum 2014-2020 is an XO agricole rum from Guadeloupe. After selecting and bottling what would become the distillery's first parcellaire rum in 2014, Benoît Bail and Jerry Gitany, from the Facebook group La Confrérie du Rhum, took the opportunity to age some of the same rum. What followed was 6 years' aging in old cognac casks. The result is an XO rum made from the only blue cane (plot 11), bottled brut de fût.
This single cask is unfiltered and natural in color. Only 389 bottles were produced.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, the cognac connection is immediately apparent. Wraps of fruity notes quickly unfurl in all directions, unfolding aromas of apricot, peach and pear. They cling to the spirit with other, more tannic-skinned fruits, such as grapes and black berries.
With a little aeration, the rhum agricole takes on a real fullness. The candied cane is enriched with a thousand spices and dried fruits, and exudes generosity. Discreetly supported by concentrated oak, it is luminous and tirelessly radiates energy.
On the palate, the attack is woody, and the tannins naturally invade the palate, all in roundness. They are indeed present, but resolutely mellow. The pepper, too, melts into the wine, introducing a more vegetal side that brings us to a cane au naturel.
The finish is round and fruity, with amazing strawberry and banana flavors, very fresh and candid, stretching out to pear.
"A lovely rhum agricole that has taken advantage of its cask in a very fruity and colorful way..."
