Rhum Grogue Velha M&G is an amber rum. It is distilled from cane grown on the Ribeira da Cruz terroir on the island of Santo Antão in Cape Verde. This grogue was traditionally distilled in 2020 in a small, handcrafted copper pot still. No chemicals are used in the cultivation of the sugar cane used.
The toddy was aged for 18 months in oak barrels that had contained wine and bourbon. It was bottled at its natural degree, brut de fût. 900 bottles were made from this small production run.
Yoann's tasting notes
The nose of this rum exudes great freshness. It is elegant and well-structured. Rich vanilla and creamy caramel take their place, accompanied by some exotic spices. Dried fruits join the blend. Aeration brings even more freshness with beautiful notes of eucalyptus.
On the palate , a very justly sweet cane juice accompanies the arrival of tropical fruits. A fine and elegant exotic woodiness accompanies this explosion of fruits. A few spices bring a touch of pep to the fresh cane juice.
The long finish , both sweet and graceful, highlights a soft caramel with fruity notes.
