Michter's US 1 Sour Mash was a popular whiskey in the 1970s and 1980s. Disappeared from the Michter's range in 1989, it returned in 2012 and was voted whiskey of the year in 2019 by The Whiskey Exchange.
This whiskey is made from a blend of barley, rye and malt. It was aged in charred American white oak barrels.
Its name “Sour Mash” refers to a process common in the bourbon world and created by James C. Crow, which consists of integrating part of the previous fermentation into the following mash (wort).
