Montebello aged rum 8 years 42°: Description and customer reviews

Enjoy Montebello rhum vieux 8 ans in this attractive packaging.
It's an agricultural rum aged in the tropics in oak barrels at the Guadeloupe distillery. The distillery is located in Petit-Bourg (Basse-Terre).

Yoann's tasting notes

The nose of this rum is rich and pastry-like. It's typically Guadeloupean, with a resinous, vegetal edge. The woodiness is precious and distinguished, with raisins and the wineiness of a sweet white. The rum gains in complexity while maintaining its balance. It becomes gourmand with marzipan and amaretto, not forgetting the sweet smell of cane juice of an agricultural white rum.
Over time, the olive appears, and the stewed fruit can be smelled even when the nose is far from the glass, as can the pastry notes. But when you get closer, you get something more complex, more floral and finely fruity, with waxed oak and hints of walnut.

On the palate, notes of cane take center stage. The woodiness builds, with spices and dried fruit in its wake. The mid-palate is full and thick, with the pastry side of raisins and stewed fruits including apple and apricot. The whole remains finely woody and spicy, which once again ensures that it doesn't cross the line into gluttony.

The finish is as rich as ever, with plump prunes and cooked banana.

It's excellent, a little surprising at first, but after tasting it a second time, I found it really nice to drink as a digestif. However, at €70 a bottle, I find it a bit expensive.

    Not my style

If you like it, we recommend :

  • If you like the resinous, candied aspect...
  • A younger but equally accomplished Montebello...
