Seductive in many ways, New Grove 8 ans Old Tradition is a rum that is at once soft, sweet, powerful and rich with complex aromas. This cuvée is a fine illustration of the tropical charm of Mauritius.
The generously sunny climate favored faster ripening, accompanied by Grays distillery's know-how and mastery of aging.
New Grove 8 ans is now only available in a 2 glass box. The bottle alone is no longer sold, and has been replaced by New Grove 10 Years.
Laurent's tasting notes
Its color is amber.
On the nose, this is a fairly evolving rum. At times, fruit (apple, mango and passion fruit), at others, barrel aromas of wood and vanilla. There's even a hint of plastic (not unpleasant).
On the palate, it's dry and its profile is more straightforward. Vanilla dominates, backed by pepper. A hint of plastic gives this rum a singular character.
The finish is long and slightly roasted. After a few seconds, peach and apricot come through clearly. The woodiness is also there, in the background.
