Founded in 1826 in the port town of Wick, on the edge of the Scottish Highlands, the Old Pulteney distillery is inextricably linked to the golden age of herring fishing that shaped the region. The malt arrived by boat at the distillery, and the whisky was shipped back by the same means of transport, carrying the fishermen. Today, nicknamed "the maritime manseng of the Highlands," this single malt draws its briny character from the immediate proximity of the sea.
This 2006 vintage was matured entirely in ex-bourbon casks selected by Malcolm Waring, the distillery manager. After approximately 12 years of maturation, it was bottled without chill filtration or artificial coloring, thus preserving its full richness and texture. It is bottled at 46% ABV in a large 1-liter format.
