Old Pulteney is a brand representing the Pulteney distillery, located in the Highlands of Scotland.

Pulteney: the passage through Prohibition

It was built in 1826 by James Henderson in the north of the Scottish Mainland. Its development was serene, and it wasn't until 1920 that a takeover took place. James Watson & Co became the owner. The company then passed into the hands of John Dewar & Sons (1924), itself absorbed by Distillers Company Ltd.

Then, in 1930, prohibition was introduced in the region. Production at Pulteney came to a halt. It wasn't until 1951 that the distillery was back in operation. In 1955,Hiram Walker & Sons of Canada bought the distillery. Only three years later, they invested and rebuilt Pulteney.

However, the changes of ownership were not over as Allied Domecq took over in 1961. Finally, Inver House Distillers bought Pulteney in 1995.

Old Pulteney: the birth of maritime whisky

Since then, the brand has gone from strength to strength, establishing a truly official range.

The successive arrivals of Old Pulteney 12yo in 1997, Old Pulteney 17yo in 2004 and Old Pulteney 21yo in 2005 marked the birth of a maritime identity. The distillery is close to the coast, and the packaging features ships.

Since then, the distillery has been offering vintage editions of 25-year-old, 35-year-old, Flotilla and Navigator. Read less
