Père Labat 50°: Description and customer reviews

One of Marie-Galante's classics, Père Labat 50° is a powerful white rum with a high alcohol content. This agricultural rum is produced exclusively with the juice of estate-grown sugar cane, which has benefited from the climatic conditions of the West Indies.

Père Labat 50° is made according to traditional island methods, allowing it to reveal its full aromatic potential.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose of this rhum agricole is uncompromising. Its vegetal character is initially rough, oxidized and even burnt. But it soon becomes clear that this apparent brutality is really just a compelling desire to express itself. Already, a few notes of cocoa stand out, as well as walnut and a little stick of rather dry licorice. The spices are fine and volatile, pepper tickling the nose. At times, we return to something more rustic, with the copper of the distillation column and the aromas of fermenting vats bubbling nearby. Back to the cane, with a good pinch of lemon zest. The rum seems to have relaxed, and the cane takes its ease, still leaving plenty of room for citrus.
Time will continue to smooth the rum, and the fermentation notes will become even more gourmand and fruity. At times, one even thinks of a long-fermented rum with aromas of extremely ripe exotic fruits, all stimulated by iodine and copper touches.

On the palate, the notes of fermented sugarcane juice are deliciously present. It's at once sweet, melting, why not even honeyed, and paradoxically powerful, as the rum warmly embraces the taste buds. There's a hint of bitter, acidic lemon zest, and a rustic, coppery quality that tightens the taste buds and leads to a less mellow finish.

The finish is fairly dry, with a hint of bagasse and cane fiber. The fruity aromas fade fairly quickly this time.

"This Père Labat is an uncompromising version of white rum, where the aromas are delivered in the rough..."

one of the best West Indian rums, which are the best rums anyway! After all, it was Père Labat who invented it in the 18th century!

With nostalgia for my previous travels, I was delighted to be able to prepare a delicious ti punch with this white rum from Père Labat. After a trip to the supermarket, a few limes and some hard-to-find mint, I invited a few friends over. The result was perfect! All that was missing was the sun!
