The history of the Poisson distillery began in 1860, when the eponymous family bought the Grand-Bourg estate to establish a sugar mill. In 1916, the Rameau family took over ownership and decided to devote themselves to rum production. For the occasion, a still and steam engine were purchased, which visitors to Marie-Galante can still see today. Édouard Rameau named his rum after a missionary, Père Labat.

Today, the infrastructure has been modernized, but the traditional production techniques remain authentic. Read less
