Prichard's Fine Rum 40° : Description and customer reviews

Prichard's Fine Rum is made in Tennessee. It's the same rum that was made 200 years ago, before Prohibition, when the United States was a major producer.

This is an English-style "rum" distilled from molasses and aged in American white oak casks.
It can be used in cocktails or enjoyed on its own.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, this molasses rum is highly aromatic, with a straightforward but well-developed woodiness. The oak is reminiscent of that found in Martinique rums, with mellow tannins, fine spices and exotic wood essences. It carries a fruity rum, evolving towards ripe peaches and apricots.

With aeration, the rum is as generous as ever. Its woodiness has evolved towards a more classic bourbon cask, with roasted, vanilla notes, but still those elegant cigar-box spices.

On the palate, we're surprised by a very exuberant, unprecedented character that's hard to decipher at first. The attack is on fresh, green wood, quite dry and astringent, which then gives way to a chlorophyllous molasses that takes on an almost medicinal air. A bourbon-like sensation also hangs in the air, and a few notes of vanilla and toasted coconut manage to cohabit with the very green profile of the first moments.

The finish is long, returning to a powerful, highly fermented distillate, inhabited by ripe exotic fruits.

"A truly disconcerting rum, which will undoubtedly appeal to lovers of the exotic..."
