ReimonenQ Vieux 7 ans Cœur de Chauffe is pure cane juice. The distillation heads and tails have been removed to keep only the best: this is what we call the "coeur de chauffe".
The rum then spent 7 years in 200-liter oak barrels before being bottled after reduction to 40°.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, there's no doubt that this is Reimonenq! Sweetness on the one hand, with dried apricots and mellow woodiness, and freshness on the other, with gray pepper, ginger and red fruits. It's a really strong nose, intoxicating and heady. The woodiness gradually shifts to the fresh side, with dried fruits such as papaya and mango dominating, and dried banana rounding out this full-bodied nose.
When it opens, the cane is sophisticated, so deeply steeped in this profusion of aromas that it seems to belong to an unprecedented variety, particularly fragrant and generous. Its vegetal side is also candied and concentrated, like resin. After a while, the rum settles down, gaining in depth what it loses in freshness. It also becomes more balanced, less exuberant.
On the palate, the rum is soft but offers a lovely texture, with a concentration of cane, pepper and damp wood. The vegetal part is once again sublimated, reminiscent of something between tobacco, black tea and yeast. The fruits are more than ripe, but we've chosen to retain only their ripeness and not their past-tense or overripe side, which gives the rum its rightness and a certain class. It continues to unfold its qualities: a hint of smokiness, encaustic wax, sticky resin...
The finish is very long, melting into dried fruit and ripe cane juice, with exotic fruit that has now begun to ferment.
"A very good Reimonenq who knows how to hold his own and thus offers a well-orchestrated demonstration of generosity..."
