Karukera L'Expression is an agricultural rum from Guadeloupe, produced on the Domaine du Marquisat de Sainte Marie. This small batch of pure cane juice rum was distilled in July 2019. It was placed in new French oak barrels on 13 August 2019, and then transferred to ex-cognac barrels on 15 April 2020. Racked on 16 October 2020, this amber rum then benefited from a slow reduction. Bottling finally took place on November 12, 2020, almost 15 months after casking. It was not cold filtered.
Nico's tasting note
The nose is both vegetal and mature, with a cane that is imprisoned in a sheath of beeswax. This gives it a greedy, candied, almost caramelised patina, all with a certain elegance.
Aeration and rest allow the rum to break the honeyed film, to express an extremely candied cane dressed in sweet spices. Elegance is more than ever the order of the day, as it displays some notes of cooked vesou, without losing its fresh and natural side.
The palate offers a very fine, woody texture at first, with light-grained oak passing over the taste buds. In a rather spicy mid-palate, the cane fizzes on the tongue before melting its sugar notes with great tenderness.
The finish is sweet and vanilla, and the candied cane shows a green and greedy side.
"A very smooth expression of agricultural rum, full of finesse and elegance..."
