Ron Espero Reserva Exclusiva 40° version with case: Description and customer reviews

Ron Espero Reserva Exclusiva is a blend of traditional rums (molasses) aged in ex-bourbon oak casks for an average of 12 years . The method used is the solera: old rums are placed in the same barrel with younger rums, so that the former "educate" the latter.

The rum was bottled in Panama.

Nico's tasting notes

Summary: vanilla - almond - pastry - buttery

The nose is light and rather delicate, veiled by a rather fine vanilla that leaves the rum in suspension and doesn't immediately plunge it into something thick and sweet. Floral and fruity notes emanate from this light profile, reminiscent at times of a white wine. Then a light coffee introduces a very pastry-like phase. Indeed, it's as if this coffee were soaking a cookie, like in a tiramisu. It even hints at creaminess.
When the rum is shaken, it gives off a strong whiff of cinnamon, giving way to fat, buttery, almost frangipane-like almonds. The rum thickens with café au lait and lots of vanilla. We're still in a soft, creamy pastry register, with condensed milk and even egg yolks, strongly reminiscent of cake batter.

On the palate, the vanilla is rather delicate and subtle, for a pleasant attack. The toasty woodiness is balanced by a mellow aspect. There are notes of sweet caramel, and the rum is quite simple and much less pastry-like than on the nose.

The finish is true to the tasting as a whole, with notes of vanilla and sweet almond.

"The nose of this rum is quite astonishing as it is extremely pastry-like, really reminiscent of cake batter or even pancake batter..."
