Twelve Barbade Jamaïque is a blend created in Laguiole by Florent Caston, a spirits enthusiast who also produces whisky. It's a blend of three distilleries well representative of their island of origin. These three molasses rums have the distinctive feature of having been distilled in iron stills. Jamaica accounts for 35% of rum from the Clarendon distillery and 25% from Worthy Park. Barbados accounts for 40% of the blend, with a rum from the Foursquare distillery.
6 barrels were pooled for this cuvée, which was aged first in the tropics, then in Aubrac. This rum was bottled brut de fût.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is that of a funky, gourmet rum, generous but not wild, concentrated but inviting. The exotic fruits are more than ripe, their flesh overflowing and unfurling its tropical aromas without any false modesty. The whole is caressed by a handful of very gourmand, very pastry-like spices, as in a Christmas gingerbread.
Aeration brings tranquility, as the rum mellows and takes on soft vegetal notes. Coconut calms the mood even further, confirming a balance where furiously tropical fruity notes coexist with a certain joie de vivre.
The palate is very sticky and invasive. After a very round attack, the rum begins a power surge that has no end in sight. It puts the exotic fruits in a state of intense vibration, and they just have to melt and flow into a highly concentrated syrup.
The finish is calmer, with a light woody vanilla note.
"Twelve's lovely candy is a treat that won't bore you...".
