Rum & Cane Central America XO 43°: Description and customer reviews

Rum & Cane Central America XO is a blend of rums from two different countries: Nicaragua and Guatemala. It is aged in bourbon barrels for at least 6 years.

Nico's tasting notes

Summary: vanilla - tobacco - caramel - coconut - light

The nose opens with traditional notes of vanilla, soft caramel and wood. It's a light profile that remains fresh, yet with a full-bodied tobacco that joins the caramel. The toasty woodiness brings out aromas of coconut and light leather. The balance is between round and full-bodied notes. A few slightly roasted nuts are scattered sparingly. The nose is pleasant and effective, the vanilla rather light and fine. It hovers over the rum, which then becomes heavier and fruitier in depth.
Swirling the liquid against the glass, the profile remains light, with a clear focus on coconut and vanilla. The nuts aren't thick or oily, remaining on the surface just as the vanilla did previously. The woodiness flattens out this clean, straightforward profile, without overindulgence.

On the palate, the vanilla and woodiness meld smoothly. We still have the feeling of a simple, well-balanced rum, with aromas of coconut, caramel, tobacco and nuts. The impression of lightness follows on from the nose.

On the finish, the rum dries fairly quickly. In so doing, it leaves a hint of nuts and spices on the palate.

A good, dry but balanced rum with lots of flavor.
