Rum Nation Demerara Solera N°14 edition 2019 comes from the Diamond distillery, located in Guyana (Demerara region).
This is a blend of several vintages, one distilled in pot stills (for aromatic strength and complexity) and the other in columns (for lightness). The rum is then transferred to Italy, where it is aged for a further 12 months in sherry casks.
Final touch: the master blender adds a splash of very old Enmore rum (a rum from an exotic wood coffey still, still from the same Diamond distillery).
Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this rum seems light in the first moments, before a little banana confectionery starts to attract attention. The toasted wood comes next, showing its charcoal surface, just grazed by the rum, which remains resolutely airy.
Aeration gives way to more roasting. The rum then plays on the range of roasted and caramelized nuts, with walnuts in the lead. Then comes molasses au naturel, sweet, intense and licorice-like.
The palate is first seduced by a sweet, almost tangy hint of orange zest. This is covered by a gourmand, vanilla and, above all, toasty woodiness, which then delivers a broad armful of molasses-caramelized nuts.
The finish is roasted and slightly spicy.
"A clearly recognizable facet of a certain Demerara style, with a big, gourmet roast..."
