Rumclub Private Selection 27 is a bottling of Jamaican rum from the Clarendon distillery.
This 1995 vintage rum has been selected by German distributor/bottler Spirit of Rum.
It is distilled from molasses and bears the EMB mark. Its ester content is between 240 and 250 grams per hectoliter of pure alcohol.
It is aged in ex-bourbon casks until bottling in April 2022.
The rum is bottled "brut de fût", without any additives.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is a concentrate of intense, tangy fruit pastes, born of a jam of long-melted, simmered tannins. The rum has drawn out all the freshness and resin of the wood, then slow-cooked them over many years, to create this powerful compote.
With aeration, the onslaught of concentrated fruit continues unabated. Quince paste, dried apricots and very ripe peaches redouble their power, all the more so as they are now driven by black coffee with orange peel. The very green tannins of the wood in the background are still very prominent, but completely melted.
On the palate, the tannins take hold of the taste buds, rubbing them with their green, fresh and resinous flavors. Power is the order of the day for this radical rum, which literally and figuratively makes powder talk. A mineral sensation takes hold of the palate on the mid-palate, with a very lively, dry impression.
On the finish, the tannins gradually melt away into more pastry-like notes of pits and fruit pastes, with a certain almost smoky bitterness that lingers.
"A very old rum which has lost none of its character and which has drawn all it can from its cask..."
