Rumclub Private Selection 28 Cudjoe 67,4° Cudjoe

Rumclub Private Selection 28 is a rum from West Africa, and more specifically from Ghana.

This cuvée is made from pure, fresh sugarcane juice. It was fermented then distilled before being aged for a year in the tropical climate of Ghana. The rum was selected by the RumClub team, then transferred to their ^17th selection Hampden cask for 8 months.

Bottling was carried out without reduction or addition, at 67.4°.
Only 342 bottles were produced, and they are numbered by hand.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose offers a rather surprising profile, given the nature of the rum. But when you consider the finish, it's easy to see why: here, the cane juice benefits from another beautifully fermented rum that develops very exotic, fruity aromas. A few citrus peels add a certain bite and a good hold to the whole.

Aeration removes the fruitier, more tropical notes to focus on a more vegetal profile, closer to sugarcane. The latter is slightly dried, and develops nuances of straw, aromatics, and even citrus leaves and flowers.

On the palate, as on the nose, we're surprised to find a very funky character, full of very ripe, slightly acidic and coppery exotic fruits. This time, the finish has left its mark, and it's harder to find the pure cane juice base. A few herbs, such as basil, seem to find their way in with time, before joining an olive nuance that could be common to both worlds.

The finish offers us a more sedate, pastry-like rum, where almonds mingle with kernels in a slightly creamy resin.
