Rumsky par Les Frères de la Côte 67,8° : Description and customer reviews

Rumsky par les Frères de la Côte is the first distillate from the adventure of our dear sailors. It is a collaboration between the Rouget de Lisle distillery/brewery, Les Frères de la Côte and Maison Mairot.

This unique hybrid experience is the result of the fermentation of two raw materials. The first is Jura barley malt juice. The second is organic molasses brought back from the Dominican Republic by sailboat. These two ingredients were fermented together for 5 months. The mash was then distilled in an Armagnac still at Rouget de Lisle. This was followed by 16 months' ageing in a barrel containing Hispaniola rum from Frères de la Côte.

Only one barrel has been bottled so far. Only 400 bottles have been bottled brut de fût.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is clear and fresh, dotted with citrus fruit, cane sugar and a hint of acidity. The bitterness of the grapefruit adds elegance, as does the williams pear. All this is gradually enveloped by a soft woodiness.

Aeration pulls at the edge of this tender oak, and lets the delicious milk chocolate flow out. Deeper notes of fermented molasses return through the back door, along with organic aromas (olive, smoked meat), which only carry the chocolate's indulgence a little further.

On the palate, despite a very high degree of alcohol, there's no hint of aggressiveness or excessive power. The attack is truly disconcerting in this respect. A certain freshness initially emerges, with cereals spiked with citrus fruit, or perhaps the reverse. Tender oak settles in gently on the midpalate, with delicate vanilla, barley malt and nougat.

The finish features our fermented molasses with olive accents, which keeps the taste buds busy for a long time.

"A gourmet marriage that surprises but satisfies beyond expectations..."
