Samaroli Over The World Edition 2016 45°: Description and customer reviews

Samaroli Over The World Edition 2016 is a blend of molasses rums created by A.W. Bleve for Italian bottler Samaroli. This blend, made in Scotland, brings together rums that have all aged in their country of origin, in a tropical climate.

The program includes rums from Fiji (2001), Barbados (1996 and 2000), Guyana (1989 and 1990) and Jamaica (1992 and 2000). All of this was blended in a single barrel, which yielded a total of 230 bottles.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, despite the rum's somewhat full-bodied appearance, there's a lovely pastry and gourmet profile. The first, slightly powdery notes give way to a sort of brioche with slightly overripe exotic fruits.

Aeration harmonizes the blend, and allows us to appreciate its seemingly simple gourmandise. The result is a superb balance of pastry, fruit, spice and woody notes. It's hard to describe everything that's going on in this rum. We can only mention a few of the aromas encountered, such as orange, oxidized apple, molasses, coffee, nougatine, roasted banana, camphor...

On the palate, it's the pastry register that takes care of the attack. The full complexity of this rum comes into play in the second that follows, with a completely new profile. It takes the form of a kind of soy sauce with toasted sesame, a salty edge, then resinous aromatics and licorice. One sometimes thinks of a grand old-fashioned aroma, as was made in French ports at the beginning of the 20th century. Leather and spice are part of the mix, along with a hint of sulfured oak.

The finish is moderately long and peppery, with snatches of smoke and dark fruit tannins lingering over time.

"A very complex blend, which gives this rum an air of antiquity..."
