Corman Collins Dame Jeanne Martinique N°2 44°: Description and customer reviews

This Martinique rum is made from Dames Jeanne from the 1960s and 1970s.

It comes from the collection of Corman Collins, the Belgian merchant and distributor well known to spirits enthusiasts.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose opens with a well-confit rum, with a pronounced, sweet-and-sour rancio. We soon perceive a certain heaviness, almost in the manner of a grand aroma, which takes on animal aromas, leather and meat juices. The vegetal side is past and resinous at the same time, with a heavy fermentation expressing itself.

Aeration confirms this full-bodied tendency, especially as a thick smoke is now heading our way. There's also something mineral about it, somewhere between gunflint and copper. A few nutty notes slip in at just the right moment, for a very roasted side.

On the palate, the full-bodied, animal notes come back with a vengeance, despite the wine's subdued power. The heaviness of the aromatic profile is confirmed, with leather impregnated with meat juices and scented with rosemary and licorice. This vegetal side is concentrated, sticky, and the sensation of a great rum aroma is decidedly pervasive, all the more so as a small green olive in brine ends up lodging itself in the recesses of the palate.

The finish, however, is relatively light, with a hint of liquorice juice, zan-like.

"A rum from another era, to be sure. Far from the Martinique agricoles of today, but closer to the molasses rums of long fermentation..."
