Savanna Bois Rouge 57°: Description and customer reviews

Savanna Bois Rouge is an agricultural rum from Reunion Island, which in 2022 celebrates the thirtieth anniversary of the distillery's move. After more than a century on the west coast in Saint-Paul, Savanna moved to the Bois Rouge estate in Saint André in 1992.

This rum has been distilled from pure sugarcane juice, and matured for a long time in oak barrels. It is blended from six barrels carefully selected by Thierry Grondin.

This special edition is limited to 3200 bottles.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose first shows an acidic edge, like a crunchy sugar with fruity nuances. Behind this fresh, colorful curtain lies dark, damp oak, lined with molasses, coffee and roasted nut paste.

With aeration, the rum's two facets unite and blend to create a rather unique profile. Complexity is the order of the day, and we discover a kind of nougat or marzipan injected with colorful fruits, then highlighted in turn by citrus and honey.

On the palate, we immediately take a bite of nougat, soft wood and even putty. It's the umami side of this rum that strikes first, with its regressive, play-dough-like quality. Then comes the depth and tropicality of a well-fermented rum, with ripe exotic fruits that quickly become coated in honey.

The finish is tasty, continuing on gourmand wood and sweet spices, with a hint of almond sweetness.

"It's a pleasure to see Savanna creating her own style in assembly..."
