Tamosi Blended Rum 45°: Description and customer reviews

Tamosi Blended Rum is a blend of molasses rums created by Levy Lane Co. The name Tamosi comes from the language of the Caribbean Indians, an ethnic group related to the Arawaks. It means "The Ancient One, the Creator", who in legend took on the appearance of a large tree.

Three distinct styles are represented here, to show the diversity of the rum world. Rums from Barbados, Jamaica and Panama have been blended, some aged and some not.

This blend includes a rum from the Foursquare distillery in Barbados, aged for 8 years in a tropical climate, and a column-distilled rum from the Varela Hermanos distillery in Panama, aged for 6 years on site.

Three white rums from Jamaica complete and enhance the blend. All are pot-still rums from the Hampden, Worthy Park and Clarendon distilleries.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is initially light, with fine, fresh fruit and fresh floral notes. However, one senses that a little air is all that's needed for this little varnish to crack, and for more intensely fruity notes to make their appearance.

The aeration keeps its promises and begins to send us very ripe exotic fruits. At the heart of the rum lies a mellow, white woody note, set slightly back, comfortably seated in the shade.

The palate is very pleasant and well-balanced, and the fruit has a field day, blooming like flowers. It's not too easy, however, as the fruit is exotic, ripe and full-bodied. They are accompanied by a lovely spicy warmth on the mid-palate, adorned with a shiny copper.

The finish is greedy and even pastry-like, with hints of almond and stone.

"A very pretty blend that quickly overcomes its shyness to offer us color and intensity..."

Really interesting rum for a reasonable price. It's well-balanced, with a lovely fruity, caramel, coffee and woody finish. You need to let it oxygenate to enjoy its full range of aromas. It became really good within a few weeks of opening the bottle, is fairly light and still easy to drink. A well-made blend.
