This Tamure white rum comes from the Moux distillery near Papara on the island of Tahiti.
David Moux replanted sugarcane in Papara in 1984, following a failure in Papete in 1982. He then launched the distillery project in 1991, after two trips to the island of Marie Galante for training. He obtained authorization to distill in 1992, and David Moux and his family are at the origin of Tahiti's first pure cane juice rum.
This cuvée is produced by double distillation of pure sugarcane juice. The cane is grown directly by the family distillery on soil that has not been intensively farmed.
This rum reflects local terroir, tradition and craftsmanship. It reflects the Tamure dance depicted on the label.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is light at first, with a few blackcurrant and blueberry berries almost bordering on juniper berry. Over time, these dark fruits become redder and sweeter, and we can now detect a mellow profile, sprinkled with powdered sugar.
With aeration, the greediness of ripe cane emerges from the fruit and its sweet juice reigns supreme. Lime zest, also very sweet, then arrives at just the right moment.
The palate is immediately invaded and dominated by ripe, candied cane, particularly tasty. It's a natural cane, from its tender, sweet fiber to its spicy, slightly salty bark. At its heart, a very sweet, slightly fermented juice that develops steamed artichoke flavors.
The finish returns to something drier, but as tasty as ever. The cane sugar is then garnished with spices, with a hint of chili that refreshes in the length.
"A natural cane brandy, as intense as it is gourmet..."
