Trois Rivières Millésime 1999 42°: Description and customer reviews

Trois Rivières Millésime 1999 is an AOC Martinique agricultural rum. It is distilled from pure cane juice in a Creole column at the La Mauny distillery. Daniel Baudin, who works for both houses, composed the blend for this vintage. Voted best cellar master in 2019, he has excelled for 15 years in the selection and harmonization of the different barrels at his disposal.

This rum comes from the 1999 harvest. It was placed in ex-bourbon barrels for over 10 years before bottling.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, this is a well-concentrated rhum agricole, with a lovely solvent pass. Nuts and citrus peel are bright and lively, the aromatic profile frank. The woodiness delivers notes of baked apple, rather oxidized, in the manner of a rustic cider brandy. There's also a tangy, candy-like quality.

Aeration seems to spread the rum over a more delicate, fresher fruitiness. Syrupy pears, peaches and cherries come to mind. The pits of these fruits add a certain old-fashioned elegance.

The palate is very balanced, with just the right amount of liveliness. A very bourbon-like flight marks the first rebound on the palate. The white wood is matched by a sweet, almost cereal-like vanilla syrup, typical of American whiskey. The agricultural rum returns with a peppery cane that still carries some notes of fermentation, and develops into dried fruit.

The finish is almost pastry-like, but invigorated by frisky, waxed wood.

"When you realize all the aromatic journey you've taken when tasting this rum, you're truly delighted to have crossed its path..."

The cellar master's tasting notes

Its finely wooded nose evolves on notes of cigar and pepper. On opening, delicious marine flavors mingle with oriental spices. The powerful palate is structured by a blend of sweetness and tannins. Hints of sweet spices and tobacco finish with aromas of precious woods.
