Wray and Nephew Gold 40°: Description and customer reviews

Wray and Nephew Gold is an aged Jamaican rum, produced by J. Wray & Nephew, which also produces the best-selling Appleton.

Nico's tasting notes

The very Jamaican nose has opted for the banana side of this island that masters exotic fruits better than anyone else. It's a mature banana, almost dried, in any case brioche-like and mellow. The vegetal side is also very gourmand, with hints of black tea and even cane juice.

With a little air, we arrive at fresher, lighter fruits, although the banana continues to lead the way. So we find a fruit salad in syrup (pear, mango), then a few touches of vanilla and caramel for sweetness.

Soft on the palate. Typical aromas of ripe banana, exotic fruit and apricot, with a hint of black tea. There's also a hint of licorice and a natural link with molasses. Jamaica is present, though the strength is rather weak, but the rum is aromatic enough to do honor to its island.

The finish is pleasant, not overpowering, with a hint of green olives.

"A rum designed for very sweet cocktails, based on exotic fruit juices..."

Both general and specific, but always pleasant, it serves me well for one or two cocktails to which I want to give a personality.
