Ben Nevis is a Scottish distillery located in the Highlands.

The nearby Ben Nevis mountain is the highest point of the British Isles. In fact, the distillery got its name when 'Long' John Macdonald built the distillery in 1825.

Once the torch was passed to his son, Peter, the Long John's Dew of Ben Nevis brand became established at the end of the 19th century.
At that time, Peter created a second distillery, Nevis, not far from the original one.

Unfortunately, this period of prosperity was short-lived. In 1908, Nevis ceased production. After that, Ben Nevis only started to produce intermittently for a long time.
Then, in 1941, the Canadian Joseph Hobbs bought the distillery.

The latter changed the situation by selling the Nevis site. Indeed, Ben Nevis, who had been closed during the Second World War, resumed production (in 1955). He also installed a column still, a Coffey still. The distillery started to produce malt and grain, and rarely single blend.

After a closure from 1978 to 1981, Long John International acquired Ben Nevis before selling it to Japan's Nikka in 1989.

Today, Ben Nevis has many strings to its bow. It supplies the Japanese market, produces blends(Nevis Dew, McDonald's Glencoe) and single malts.

Examples include the classic 10 year old and the McDonald's Traditional Malt. Read less
