Ben Nevis

Ben Nevis is a Scottish distillery located in the Highlands.
The nearby Ben Nevis mountain is the highest point in the British Isles. In fact, the distillery borrowed its name when "Long" John Macdonald built the distillery in 1825.
Once the torch had been passed on to his son, Peter, the Long John's Dew of Ben Nevis brand became established in the late 19th century.
At the same time, Peter established a second distillery, Nevis, not far from the original.
Unfortunately, the boom was short-lived. In 1908, Nevis ceased production. For a long time thereafter, Ben Nevis was only intermittently active.
Then, in 1941, Canadian Joseph Hobbs bought the distillery.
The latter changed the situation by selling the Nevis site. Ben Nevis, who had been closed during the Second World War, resumed production (in 1955). He also installed a Coffey still. This marked the beginning of a period when the distillery produced malt, grain and, rarely, single blends.
After closing from 1978 to 1981, Long John International acquired Ben Nevis before selling it to Japan's Nikka in 1989.
Today, Ben Nevis has many strings to its bow. It supplies the Japanese market, produces blends(Nevis Dew, McDonald's Glencoe) and single malts.
Examples include the classic 10 Year Old and McDonald's Traditional Malt. Read less
