In the heart of the Jura Mountains, the Rouget de Lisle Distillery embodies the audacity and passion of one man: Bruno Mangin . A globetrotting epicurean, he founded a craft brewery in 1994 , at a time when beer wasn't yet fashionable. He did so in the Jura region , a land renowned for its wines. A visionary, he distilled his very first French craft whisky there in 1999 and released his first vintage in 2003.
After thirteen years of occasional distillation, Bruno Mangin acquired a 1935 column still, which he had restored. More recently, a 1937 Armagnac still has been added to the production facilities. The distillery has adopted double distillation in a Charentais still , a traditional method renowned for revealing complex and delicate aromas. Now, the entire process—brewing, distillation, and aging—is carried out on-site, guaranteeing complete freedom of innovation and rigorous control over both quality and the aromatic profile.
Under the BM brand, officially founded in 2017 , a complete range of beers and spirits crafted from the finest malts is unveiled. The beers express a powerful vegetal hop character, while the whiskies, vodkas, and gins benefit from patient maturation in oak barrels that previously held great Jura wines such as Macvin, Vin Jaune , and Vin de Paille . This unique aging process is the brand's greatest strength, giving BM Signature creations a character deeply rooted in the local terroir.
Safely stored in their cellars, some spirits continue their maturation for 6 to over 15 years , patiently shaping their identity. The smoked malts even evoke the typical cured meats of the Jura mountains, reminding us that each bottle tells a story of the region.
